FAQ

Fair questions, straight answers

The short version of everything: strangers scan your sticker and message you through a relay, your phone number is never shown, and you hold every switch. The long version is below.

Everything people ask

What is a text-me sticker?
A QR sticker that lets anyone who scans it send you messages through a private relay, so your phone number is never shown. Think of it as a textable doorbell for any object you own. See how it works.
Can people see my phone number when they scan?
No, never. Scanners see the name and bio you wrote, then a chat. Your number is used solely to notify you.
Does the scanner need an app or an account?
No app, ever. The QR opens a web page. An account is optional: they can type a name or message as an anonymous guest.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Any phone camera that reads QR codes (all of them, for years now) opens the page in the browser. You, the owner, get push notifications by adding the inbox to your home screen.
Does the scanner need internet?
Yes, a browser needs data or wifi. In practice anyone with a phone camera out has a connection.
What happens when I block someone?
Their messages silently stop arriving. They aren't told, and picking a new guest name doesn't get around it.
What does reporting do?
The report is stored with the conversation attached and reviewed by a human. Both sides of any chat can report.
Can I turn my sticker off?
Yes, pause any time. Scanners see a calm “taking a breather” screen; nothing reaches you until you unpause.
What if someone steals or photographs my sticker?
A photo of your QR just gives someone another way to message you. It can't be taken over or re-linked, and it never exposes your number.
Is this anonymous messaging?
Half, on purpose. You're semi-public: you chose to put a scannable invitation on your stuff. Senders can start anonymous but aren't unaccountable: guests are rate-limited and blockable. We deliberately avoid the full-anonymous model that sank apps like NGL.
How is this different from an SMS QR code?
An SMS QR code opens the scanner's Messages app with your real number pre-filled. The number is the product. Ours never contains it. Full comparison: vs. SMS QR codes.
How much does it cost?
We're making a small first batch. Join from the homepage and you'll get one email when yours is ready.
Is there an age requirement?
16+. Inviting strangers to message you is an adult-shaped decision. More on the safety page.
